Katuba Member of Parliament  Patrick Chikusu says the Link Zambia 8000 road project once completed will help reduce the wastage of food due to transport hiccups that are currently experienced by farmers.

And Dr. Chikusu has thanked the Patriotic Front government for attaching great importance to the construction of food storage facilities in his constituency.

Dr. Chikusu who is also health deputy minister said the massive construction of roads will greatly reduce food wastage especially seasonal fruits due to the poor road networks.

He was speaking in Chibombo yesterday at the commemoration of the international environmental day which was organised by the Center for Livelihood Environment and Watershed Management (CLEWM).

This year’s World Environment Day was held under the theme Think, Eat, Save.

And Dr. Chikusu thanked CLEWM for supporting government efforts in implementing various programmes in his constituency such as the sinking of boreholes among others.

Meanwhile, CLEWM country director Kotati Nonde says the removal of subsidies from fuel and maize wil at no cost address many issues related to the preservation of the environment which he said impacts negatively on people’s lives.

Mr. Nonde also said the removal of subsidies will bring social services such as schools and hospitals closer to the people.

He also reaffirmed his organization’s commitment to work with rural communities especially in areas of environmental management.
