Government has assured people in flooded areas in North-western province that everything possible will be done to provide relief supplies to affected families.

North-Western province Permanent Secretary, Augustine Seyuba made the assurance when he addressed heads of government departments in Chavuma district yesterday.

Mr. Seyuba observed that the floods this year have adversely affected thousands of people on the west bank of the Zambezi river.

This development has made it difficult for government officers to travel in those areas because the
roads are impassable and submerged in water.

ZANIS reports from Chavuma that Zambezi district commissioner, Catherine Mukuma told the Permanent Secretary that the worst hit area is Chinyama Litapi while her Chavuma counterpart in Adjah Chipawa identified Nyatanda as the worst hit area by the floods .

Both District Commissioners appealed to government to equip their district disaster management and mitigation committees with Suzuki motor bikes to use on the west bank when floods subside because the roads are badly damaged due to adverse terrain of the area.

They said the floods this year are likely to last for a period of six months beginning January, this year.
