Promote cultural tourism during UNWTO General Assembly – Chief Chikanta

Vice chair person of the House of Chiefs chief Chikanta has called for the promotion of cultural tourism during the upcoming United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembl

Chief Chikanta said there should be more show casing of Cultural Heritage as it is unique with each society’s.

Chief Chikanta noted that for some time now, the country’s cultural heritage has not been adequately marketed as a tourist attraction.

He said the UNWTO General Assembly which will be co-hosted by Zambia and Zimbabwe in August this year is a good platform to promote cultural heritage.
 
Chief Chikanta said there is need for government to partner with traditional leadership to ensure that here is sufficient exhibition of cultural norms and practices during the assembly.
 
He commended Senior Chief Mukuni of the Tonga people for the efforts he is making in the promotion of cultural heritage tourism.
 
The Chief explained that Chief Mukuni has made a Cultural Village in his Chiefdom which displays all the various cultural aspects of the Tonga people.
 
He said the House of Chiefs Has welcomed the call by Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister NKandu Luo to rebrand traditional ceremonies and ensure that they are rich in cultural display.
