Sesheke villager arrested for murder

Police in Sesheke District of Western province of Zambia have apprehended a 33 year old man of Situlu area for allegedly murdering a 32 year old man of the same area of Mwandi district.

Western Province Police Commissioner, Fanwell Siandenge identified the deceased as Mwiiya Sitali 32, of village Nongwa in chief Aibelilwe of Mwandi district.

Mr. Siandenge also identified the assailant as Gabriel Chipepa 33, of village Koni in chief Shaibila of Mukushi District and also of village Situmbeko of Situlu area in Mwandi district.

He told ZANIS in an interview that, the incident happened yesterday at around 17 hours in Situlu area shortly after Mwiiya Sitali was seen trespassing in the field of Gabriel Chipepa, who later got upset and murdered Mwiiya Sitali for trespassing in his field.

“The suspect hit the Sitali’s head and legs continuously using a matchet until he died in a pool of cold blood and as if it was not enough, he got a rail bar and continued to heat the deceased until the head and some parts of the deceased’s body were deformed”. Said Mr. Siandenge.

After murdering Mwiiya Sitali, Gabriel Chipepa further went and set ablaze the house of Mwiiya Sitali’s mother.

Mr. Siandenge has confirmed to ZANIS that the suspect has since been arrested and he is in Police Custody at Sesheke Police station while the Sitali’s body is at Yeta district hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.

The suspect will appear in court soon.
