Kabompo PF supports subsidy removal

Kabompo, May 20, ZANIS ——A senior Patriotic Front (PF) official in Kabompo district has praised President Michael Sata for removing maize and fuel subsidies in order to channel the funds for infrastructure development in the country.

Kabompo district PF Secretary, Anthony Simutowe said President Sata must be commended for having taken a bold step in removing maize and fuel subsidies in order to use the money to develop the economy of the nation in a realistic perspective.

Mr Simutowe said this in a press statement made available to Zambia News and Information Services in Kabompo today.

He said subsidies conceal the true picture of the economy of the nation, adding that by removing the subsidies the Zambian government and people will know the true position of how poor or rich the nation is.

Meanwhile, Mr Simutowe appealed to President Sata to use the money realized from the removed subsidies to build a university in Kabompo in recognition of the role the town played in the liberation struggle for independence when in 1959 the first Republican President, Dr Kenneth Kaunda was under house arrest by the colonial masters in Kabompo.

He further said Kabompo has a huge potential for being a provincial headquarters for North-Western province because it is centrally situated with abundant water for development and all weather roads connected other districts.
